LAX IMC BREAKFAST MEETING - March 7, 2008

Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Consultants Needed
Featuring: Neven Karlovac, Ph.D.

Learn how to advise small business technology-driven companies: Over one thousand small businesses in the U.S. are run by technology-minded entrepreneurs and funded by SBIR (Small Business Innovative Research) and other government programs. While they often provide an interesting lifestyle for their owners, they do not grow into viable businesses as often as they could. Business consultants can play an important and rewarding role helping these companies to grow and prosper.

The speaker will relate his experience managing a commercialization assistance program for over four hundred NIH (National Institute of Health) SBIR grantees and many other U.S. and foreign small technology companies. NIH is a leading federal agency for life sciences and healthcare research with a budget of over $28 Billion.

The talk will focus on the typical challenges of these companies and the areas where they need most help, and illustrate the ways for consultants to get more knowledgeable and involved with such government programs to aid their clients.

Neven will discuss these opportunities and explain how it works. Attendees will walk away with a better understanding of the needs of small- to medium-sized enterprises in the technology field and how to find more clients in this space.
