Consulting in a Multi-Cultural Society
With Carlos Conejo
|
Consulting in a Multicultural Society:
As a consultant, have you developed your MA, or multicultural acumen?
50% of America's workforce is now of another ethnicity or culture! Emerging populations now account for the majority in 297 U.S. counties.
In addition, we are beginning to see more people of color in management and executive management positions.
Finally, many companies are either global or multi-national, requiring understanding and sensitivity to various cultural and business norms.
Carlos Conejo's session will show you how to become more effective in order to thrive in an explosive multicultural society. The session will also show you the importance of cross-cultural communications and relationship-building so you can become more culturally-relevant.
This session goes "way beyond affirmative action, or the "right thing to do" this session will examine the business case or strategic positioning to help you tap into, and grow your business in a multicultural world.
This session will take you from the basics of properly presenting your business card, to effective fact-finding and communications, as well as implementation strategies to developing multiculturally appropriate workforce curriculum that gets multicultural employees more involved in the process.
This session will also answer your questions as they relate to:
1. Isn't the approach the same?
2. Isn't human nature the same?
3. My area of expertise is very specialized and in demand, it supersedes cultural differences, doesn't it?
4. Do I have to be from the same culture, or speak the language in order to be effective?
Come find the answers to these questions and much more.

Nicandro Juárez, CMC, President, Juárez & Associates, Los Angeles, CA
Member of IMC since 12 May 1976 and Past President of the Los Angeles Chapter , 1983-1984
Key Success with IMC: During my tenure as president, our meeting venue was the University Club in downtown Los Angeles. Our goal was to have the Big Eight CPA firms provide up to half of the attendance, and we were successful in accomplishing that goal. The most successful meetings were those which provided insights into marketing strategies, either by providers or by users of consulting services.
Founded in 1971, Juárez & Associates is a research and management consulting firm, presently with offices in Los Angeles, Washington DC, Kingston, Managua and Guatemala City. The firm is committed to problem-solving research and consulting from an interdisciplinary and international perspective, including assignments in private-sector marketing and public-sector social marketing, training and technical assistance, and program evaluation.
Our approach is team-based, participatory and focused on practical, relevant and flexible, as well as sustainable, solutions. All professional staff are bilingual in English and Spanish, while some are fluent in three or more languages.
In 1987, 1990 and 1993 Juárez & Associates was listed in Consultants News as one of the nation's top 100 management consulting firms. The website is www.juarezassociates.com.
Parting Thoughts: Being a member of IMC means giving back to the profession that has not only allowed me to make a comfortable living but has also provided me with lifelong friends
